2017 Cadillac CT6 Plug-In Hybrid Offering an Estimated 400-plus Miles of Total Range

2017 Cadillac CT6 Plug-In Hybrid - Smail Cadillac Blog

Cadillac recently announced the first-ever 2017 CT6 Plug-In Hybrid prestige sedan will go on sale in the spring of 2017, with a total driving range of more than 400 miles.

Advanced plug-in hybrid technology enables the luxury sedan to reward drivers with environmentally conscious driving without compromising on performance. The CT6 Plug-In Hybrid system is designed to provide responsive, all-electric driving for most daily commutes, while maximizing fuel efficiency by providing blended power from the engine and battery at higher speeds and higher loads.

All-electric range for the CT6 Plug-In Hybrid is an estimated 30 miles. However, the car’s combination of efficient engine and battery power enables drivers the freedom of more than 400 miles of total driving range, with no requirement to find charging stations along the way. Thanks to the advanced propulsion system, the CT6 Plug-In Hybrid removes all range anxiety for our customers.

“The CT6 is a technological showcase throughout, and by far the lightest car in its class, making it an ideal platform for electrification,” said Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen. “In the CT6, Cadillac presents a new formula for prestige luxury. The advanced Plug-In Hybrid system is a key addition, providing a combination of exceptional fuel economy, crisp acceleration and strong electric-driving range.”

Cadillac’s prestige plug-in hybrid entry achieves the same zero to 60 mph performance as its V6-powered competitors, while achieving roughly twice the full EV range and MPGe figures.

The CT6 Plug-In Hybrid is expected to have fuel economy estimated at 65 MPGe. Miles per gallon equivalence – MPGe – compares energy consumption of plug-in electric vehicles and other advanced technology vehicles with the fuel economy of conventional internal combustion vehicles in miles per U.S. gallon.

The CT6 Plug-In Hybrid combines an all-new rear wheel drive electric variable transmission to provide the smooth, powerful acceleration expected from a driver’s car. The two-motor EVT system combines with the 2.0-liter turbocharged four- cylinder gas engine to produce an estimated total system power of 335 hp (250 kW) and 432 lb-ft (586 Nm) of torque. This helps propel the vehicle from a zero to 60 mph in an estimated 5.2 seconds.

Each electric motor produces 100 hp (74.5 kW) of power. On electric power only, the car is capable of approximately 30 miles of driving range and a top speed of 78 mph, with the additional power of the engine adding hundreds of miles of total range and a top speed of 150 mph on a track.

The CT6 Plug-In Hybrid launches in North America in the spring of 2017, starting in the U.S. at $75,095 plus a $995 destination freight charge before any applicable electric vehicle tax incentives. In the U.S. market, the CT6 Plug-In Hybrid will be offered as its own unique package within the CT6 product line, with pricing and equipment comparable to the existing Premium Luxury model (second highest within in the model range). The Plug-In model includes numerous optional equipment as standard, such as a Rear Seat Infotainment system, Enhanced Night Vision and Rear Camera mirror.

Buick Introduces New Cascada Sport Touring Sport Red Exterior

“We’ve heard it from customers all year: ‘What a beautiful car. Can I get it in red?’ Well yes, now you can,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick Sales, Service and Marketing. “This new addition to the Cascada portfolio offers a modern style statement with blacked-out exterior trim and red interior stitching.”

Exterior styling is a top consideration for customers, and the Cascada’s new Dark Effects package makes a unique statement. The package features a gloss-black finish on the grille, mirror caps and 20-inch wheels, as well as body-color trim across the decklid. Inside, new red stitching adds contrast to the instrument panel, doors and seats. The package is paired exclusively with the new Sport Red exterior color and is available only on the Cascada Sport Touring model in limited volume — 150 initial vehicles will arrive starting February 2017.

A recent Autotrader study showed that almost a quarter of customers will delay the purchase of a vehicle if the color they want isn’t available, so Buick will regularly offer new color and trim combinations for the Cascada, giving the brand more opportunities to explore new style statements and connect with unique personalities.

Cadillac Partners with The Andy Warhol Museum for Letters to Andy Warhol

Earlier this year I wrote a piece about the Cadillac House in New York, a multi-function area for art, fashion and design. There is gallery for cutting-edge art, retail pop-up showcasing designers, coffeehouse and meeting places built to be flexible enough to host parties, business meetings or just casual meet-ups.

It's newest exhibition, running 11/15-12/26, will feature work from legendary Pittsburgh artist Andy Warhol. Letters to Andy Warhol focuses on five letters to or from Yves Saint Laurent, Mick Jagger, the Museum of Modern Art, the New York State Department of Public Works and a mutual friend of his and Truman Capote that offer a glimpse into Warhol’s most personal experiences and relationships.

The exhibition also includes five artworks across varying mediums and techniques, and from different periods of Warhol’s career, that all share Cadillac as the subject.

“Andy Warhol's mastery of popular culture as high art made him one of the most influential American artists of the last century," said Melody Lee, director of Brand Marketing for Cadillac. Letters to Andy Warhol celebrates Warhol’s unique individualism, and Cadillac as a cultural inspiration for his important work."

“Andy Warhol painted a portrait of American life. The Warhol’s partnership with Cadillac, an iconic American brand that appears in Warhol’s work, feels completely right to us," says Patrick Moore, The Warhol's interim director. “We’re excited to be part of an exhibition that examines the continuing influence of Warhol on contemporary culture through the lens of some of today’s most influential tastemakers.”

The Cadillac artworks on display in Letters to Andy Warhol include:

  • Four Male Costumed Full Figures, 1950s and Car, 1950s, were both works created as a commission for Harper’s Bazaar, which requested that he “make a visual comment on the phenomenon of the American motorcar.” The works illustrate a 1958 Cadillac Coupe de Ville.
  • Cadillac, 1962 in graphite on sketchbook paper.
  • Seven Cadillacs, 1962 depicts what is likely a 1963 Fleetwood (Special) four-door hardtop in black silkscreen ink on linen.
  • Sign (Keep Out) 1976-1986, 1986 consists of four gelatin silver photographs, machine-stitched in a grid with thread, picturing what is likely a 1983 Cadillac Coupe de Ville d’Elegance.

During the initial few weeks of the exhibition, Cadillac House will have a Cadillac Park Avenue DeVille featured in the Seven Cadillacs, 1962 work on display. This is a limited production model from 1962 and 1963 designed specifically for Cadillac owners who lived in New York City high rise apartments with underground garages, with a shorter deck for easier parking. Other heritage vehicles that will be on display include a black 1958 Sedan DeVille and a red 1959 Eldorado Biarritz.

The exhibition will be free and open to the public at Cadillac House, located at 330 Hudson Street in Manhattan, from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m.-7 p.m. weekends from Nov. 15-Dec. 26. Letters to Andy Warhol will then travel to Los Angeles in mid-January for display at the 101/EXHIBIT Gallery and to Miami in early February for display at Palm Court before going on a global tour through early 2018.

Cadillac and Visionaire unveil ‘AUTOPORTRAIT’ exhibit featuring artist-robot ADA0002

Cadillac and Visionaire today unveiled the newest exhibit at Cadillac House, “AUTOPORTRAIT.” The exhibit features a welding robot, similar to the robots found on the assembly lines building Cadillac vehicles, coded to be a human-like artist. Any Cadillac House guest will be able to have their portrait sketched by robotic artist ADA0002.

The robot — named after the self-described “poetical scientist, analyst and metaphysician” Ada Lovelace (1815-1852), considered to be the world’s first computer programmer — is a pioneer of the relatively new concept of robotic artistry. The exhibit blurs the line between human and machine intelligence and examines potential consequences for the field of art.

With “AUTOPORTRAIT,” Cadillac and Visionaire explore the metaphysical lines between art, artist, value and the digital dichotomy, while confronting notions of the intrinsic meanings that may lie behind artworks created by the hand of a robot.

As audiences arrive to examine ADA’s processes in the gallery space at Cadillac House, the Advanced Drawing Automaton (ADA) examines back, selecting viewers for whom it creates a portrait. Using image processing algorithms, ADA0002 stylistically synthesizes the image of its subject, transforming the viewer from a tangible being into processed computer data and back into a unique physical object. This artifact can be taken out of the gallery context and hung on the wall at the subject’s home.

Without the pressure to sell art, the gallery space at Cadillac House is able to provide a different perspective, challenging the conventional gallery experience by creating interactive installation-based art.

“AUTOPORTRAIT” will be live at Cadillac House, located at 330 Hudson Street in New York City, from Wednesday, Oct.12-Friday, Nov. 4. The exhibit is free and open to the public from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on weekends.

Avenir Sub-Brand to Represent Highest Expression of Buick Luxury

Across continents, a growing set of new customers are discovering unexpected and attainable luxury experiences from Buick. Soon, those customers will be introduced to a new Avenir sub-brand designed to grow with the needs of future luxury buyers.

Avenir vehicles will add distinct touches to Buick’s timeless, sculpted designs, including a three-dimensional mesh grille, large-diameter wheels, and unique trim finishes. Inside, Avenir models will enhance the brand’s quiet, inviting environment with unique seat details, modern trim materials and Avenir script identification.

“Through the first half of 2016, Buick has been the industry’s fastest-growing major international brand, and Avenir is key to future growth and delivering on the high expectations of new customers coming to our showrooms,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick Sales, Service and Marketing. “Avenir will be Buick’s signature. The highest expression of the luxury experiences we’re delivering now and in the future.”

The name “Avenir,” French for “future,” is taken from the award-winning concept sedan from 2015. That concept and this year’s Avista coupe concept — from which the new sub-brand borrows its grille pattern — have served as guideposts for designers sketching and modeling Buick’s future.

Additional Avenir details and product specifics will be announced later. For more information, visit SmailBuick.com.

2017 Cadillac XT5 Earns 2016 Top Safety Pick+ Rating from Insurance Institute for Highway Safety

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) today announced that the 2017 Cadillac XT5 crossover has earned a rating of 2016 Top Safety Pick+ (TSP+) when equipped with optional front crash prevention. A rating of TSP+ is the highest rating a vehicle can earn from the IIHS.

To qualify for a TSP+ rating, a vehicle must earn good ratings in the five crashworthiness tests — small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints — and an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention. Read more on the crash test results from the IIHS here.

“Passenger safety was one of our top priorities when we engineered the XT5,” said Paul Spadafora, XT5 chief engineer. “We equipped the XT5 with Cadillac’s full set of driver awareness and driver assistance systems to aid collision avoidance. Just as importantly, we designed an advanced structure that is both stiffer and lighter, for excellent crashworthiness. This included a revised front structure that specifically targets the challenging offset barrier scenario.”

The 2017 XT5 is standard with seven airbags. OnStar’s suite of emergency services, including Automatic Crash Response, is available. The XT5 also offers numerous advanced safety systems included in the Driver Awareness and Driver Assist Packages.

The Driver Awareness Package includes the Safety Alert Seat, Forward Collision Alert, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, front pedestrian detection, Front Automatic Braking and IntelliBeam headlights (automatic high beam). It is available on the XT5 Luxury trim level and is standard on XT5 Premium Luxury and Platinum.

The Driver Assist Package includes adaptive cruise control, Automatic Safety Belt Tightening, Automatic Park Assist, Automatic Collision Braking and Front and Rear Automatic Braking. It is available on the XT5 Premium Luxury and Platinum trims. These features are required for the XT5 to earn the TSP+ rating.

The front rails of XT5’s body structure exemplify the design approach. Using extensive computer simulations and data from physical tests, engineers “splayed” the front rails on each side, widening and angling the structure slightly outward. This design alteration targeted offset barrier impacts and contact to the front corners of the vehicle, a vital aspect in safety testing and real-world collisions.
