GMC today introduced the 2017 Sierra HD All Terrain X, the most off-road-capable model in the Sierra HD lineup, and one that matches its enhanced capability with trail-ready style and the brand’s signature refinement.

It joins Canyon and Sierra 1500 this fall as the third model in GMC’s distinctive, limited-edition All Terrain X series, offered on the Sierra 2500HD crew cab 4WD with a 6.0L gas V-8 engine or the all-new, next-generation Duramax 6.6L V-8 turbo-diesel. More powerful than ever, the new Duramax delivers a segment-topping SAE-certified 445 hp and an SAE-certified 910 lb.-ft. of torque.

“The new Sierra HD All Terrain X’s powerful attitude reflects a popular trend in very capable off-road trucks, executed with a range-topping level of refinement — a combination of attributes GMC has cultivated for years,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of GMC Sales and Marketing. “And with the new, available Duramax 6.6L, this truck more than matches its bold good looks with true professional-grade capability.”

Cadillac and Visionaire unveil ‘AUTOPORTRAIT’ exhibit featuring artist-robot ADA0002

Cadillac and Visionaire today unveiled the newest exhibit at Cadillac House, “AUTOPORTRAIT.” The exhibit features a welding robot, similar to the robots found on the assembly lines building Cadillac vehicles, coded to be a human-like artist. Any Cadillac House guest will be able to have their portrait sketched by robotic artist ADA0002.

The robot — named after the self-described “poetical scientist, analyst and metaphysician” Ada Lovelace (1815-1852), considered to be the world’s first computer programmer — is a pioneer of the relatively new concept of robotic artistry. The exhibit blurs the line between human and machine intelligence and examines potential consequences for the field of art.

With “AUTOPORTRAIT,” Cadillac and Visionaire explore the metaphysical lines between art, artist, value and the digital dichotomy, while confronting notions of the intrinsic meanings that may lie behind artworks created by the hand of a robot.

As audiences arrive to examine ADA’s processes in the gallery space at Cadillac House, the Advanced Drawing Automaton (ADA) examines back, selecting viewers for whom it creates a portrait. Using image processing algorithms, ADA0002 stylistically synthesizes the image of its subject, transforming the viewer from a tangible being into processed computer data and back into a unique physical object. This artifact can be taken out of the gallery context and hung on the wall at the subject’s home.

Without the pressure to sell art, the gallery space at Cadillac House is able to provide a different perspective, challenging the conventional gallery experience by creating interactive installation-based art.

“AUTOPORTRAIT” will be live at Cadillac House, located at 330 Hudson Street in New York City, from Wednesday, Oct.12-Friday, Nov. 4. The exhibit is free and open to the public from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on weekends.

Avenir Sub-Brand to Represent Highest Expression of Buick Luxury

Across continents, a growing set of new customers are discovering unexpected and attainable luxury experiences from Buick. Soon, those customers will be introduced to a new Avenir sub-brand designed to grow with the needs of future luxury buyers.

Avenir vehicles will add distinct touches to Buick’s timeless, sculpted designs, including a three-dimensional mesh grille, large-diameter wheels, and unique trim finishes. Inside, Avenir models will enhance the brand’s quiet, inviting environment with unique seat details, modern trim materials and Avenir script identification.

“Through the first half of 2016, Buick has been the industry’s fastest-growing major international brand, and Avenir is key to future growth and delivering on the high expectations of new customers coming to our showrooms,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick Sales, Service and Marketing. “Avenir will be Buick’s signature. The highest expression of the luxury experiences we’re delivering now and in the future.”

The name “Avenir,” French for “future,” is taken from the award-winning concept sedan from 2015. That concept and this year’s Avista coupe concept — from which the new sub-brand borrows its grille pattern — have served as guideposts for designers sketching and modeling Buick’s future.

Additional Avenir details and product specifics will be announced later. For more information, visit

2017 Cadillac XT5 Earns 2016 Top Safety Pick+ Rating from Insurance Institute for Highway Safety

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) today announced that the 2017 Cadillac XT5 crossover has earned a rating of 2016 Top Safety Pick+ (TSP+) when equipped with optional front crash prevention. A rating of TSP+ is the highest rating a vehicle can earn from the IIHS.

To qualify for a TSP+ rating, a vehicle must earn good ratings in the five crashworthiness tests — small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints — and an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention. Read more on the crash test results from the IIHS here.

“Passenger safety was one of our top priorities when we engineered the XT5,” said Paul Spadafora, XT5 chief engineer. “We equipped the XT5 with Cadillac’s full set of driver awareness and driver assistance systems to aid collision avoidance. Just as importantly, we designed an advanced structure that is both stiffer and lighter, for excellent crashworthiness. This included a revised front structure that specifically targets the challenging offset barrier scenario.”

The 2017 XT5 is standard with seven airbags. OnStar’s suite of emergency services, including Automatic Crash Response, is available. The XT5 also offers numerous advanced safety systems included in the Driver Awareness and Driver Assist Packages.

The Driver Awareness Package includes the Safety Alert Seat, Forward Collision Alert, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, front pedestrian detection, Front Automatic Braking and IntelliBeam headlights (automatic high beam). It is available on the XT5 Luxury trim level and is standard on XT5 Premium Luxury and Platinum.

The Driver Assist Package includes adaptive cruise control, Automatic Safety Belt Tightening, Automatic Park Assist, Automatic Collision Braking and Front and Rear Automatic Braking. It is available on the XT5 Premium Luxury and Platinum trims. These features are required for the XT5 to earn the TSP+ rating.

The front rails of XT5’s body structure exemplify the design approach. Using extensive computer simulations and data from physical tests, engineers “splayed” the front rails on each side, widening and angling the structure slightly outward. This design alteration targeted offset barrier impacts and contact to the front corners of the vehicle, a vital aspect in safety testing and real-world collisions.

2017 GMC Acadia - Review and Test Drive

I recently got the opportunity to review and test drive the 2017 GMC Acadia Denali for an episode of First Gear. Part of the show is that I don't know what vehicle I am going to review until it is driven up to me by a sales representative here at Smail. Going into the review blind means the viewers get a chance to explore and test the features of the vehicle along with me. It also presents an opportunity to capture genuine moments and discoveries.

When I first opened the door and stuck my head inside the 2017 Acadia, I was instantly impressed with the size of the interior. It's technically classified as a "mid-sized SUV," although I think it's bigger on the inside. This model had individual captain's chair seats in the second row, which I think opened up the cabin even more. I was able to comfortably sit in the second row with plenty of leg room, and didn't have to even move the first or second rows to fit. With some adjustments, I was even able to sit in the third row. The leather was soft and comfortable, and the features were simple and intuitive.

During the test drive, I was able to experiment and demonstrate some of the safety features. The Surround Vision camera system was impressive and easy to use. I even found the courage to test the Lane Keep Assist feature, which will automatically nudge your steering wheel to keep you in between the painted lines on the road. There were so many features and functions in this Acadia that I knew I wasn't able to find and demonstrate everything with the limited time that we had available.

You can find more about the GMC Acadia at And please watch our other videos at our First Gear playlist.
