Introducing the Cadillac Escala Concept

Cadillac Escala Concept - Smail Cadillac Blog

Cadillac's newest concept car, the Escala, was unveiled at Monterey Car Week and showcased this weekend at the annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The Escala Concept previews the future direction of Cadillac design, combining the craftsmanship and technology.

“Escala is a concept with two clear objectives,” said Johan de Nysschen, president of Global Cadillac. “First, Escala is a statement of intent for the next iteration of the Cadillac design language, and also technical concepts in development for future Cadillac models. Secondly, Escala builds Cadillac’s aspirational character, signaling the brand’s return to the pinnacle of premium.”

The Escala is a concept for "a larger, more elite and expressive companion to the recently launched 2016 Cadillac CT6," and its interior designed around two distinct themes: technology and relaxation. The front of the interior is designed around technological advances like three curved OLED screens and a central control module with voice and gesture control technology. The rear of the interior is focused on the relaxation of the passengers, the interior is assembled using hand cut-and-sewn techniques, using hand-tailored fabric on the door trim and seating areas.

“This concept shares how Cadillac will bring forward a new experience that is uniquely American, and unmistakably Cadillac,” says Andrew Smith, executive director of Cadillac Global Design. “Escala is an expressive symbol of reward and an exhilarating driving experience. On the interior, we pushed further. It’s about precision and ingenuity in craftsmanship, and the artistic integration of technology.”

Special Edition 2017 Buick Cascada ST Convertible Makes Debut at Scenic Road Rally

2017 Buick Cascada Sport Touring - Smail Buick GMC Cadillac - Greensburg PA

I'd have to imagine that one of the best places to debut a special edition convertible would be a scenic, 1,000-mile road rally through the forests and lakefronts of the Great Lakes. It's obvious that Buick feels the same way, because that's exactly what they did this past weekend with the all-new 2017 Buick Cascada Sport Touring at the fifth annual Mille Mitten rally in Michigan.

This Cascada ST makes a stylish statement with a unique paint color, new wheel design, and other custom content. The convertible comes in only the "True Blue Metallic" paint color, a color not available in other Cascada models, with a black cloth top that includes three layers of fabric structure for signature Buick quietness and insulation. The five-spoke, 20-inch wheels are new for the Cascada ST, as are Black Magic interior trim components, sport pedals and a flat-bottom sport steering wheel.

The Cascada was designed with road rally-like adventures and road trips in mind, and its convertible top retracts in 17 seconds at speeds up to 31 miles per hour so customers can breathe in every second of sunshine and scenery. “The Mille Mitten celebrates the unique combination of features Michigan has to offer, from the deep blue of the Great Lakes to stunning star-filled nights deep in the forest,” said Ben Bator, Mille Mitten founder. “The Cascada is the perfect companion for this memorable experience, and the new Sport Touring builds off the same color palette that makes nature so inspiring.”

GMC Yukon Ranks in US News & World Report 2016 Best Cars for Families in Large SUV Category

2016 GMC Yukon - US News & World Report 2016 Best Cars for Families - Smail Auto Blog

With its competitive gas mileage, a muscular engine, and plenty of space for the family, the 2016 GMC Yukon has been named to the US News & World Report list of 2016 Best Cars for Families in the Large SUV Category.

"A big family hauler needs to have the power to move a full load of people and gear," says their report, "and the Yukon’s 355-horsepower V8 engine delivers." But despite it's power and size, the Yukon is easy to drive. "Some large SUVs suffer from clumsy steering, cumbersome handling, or a rough ride, but not the Yukon. It drives like a smaller vehicle, navigating corners with poise and delivering a smooth and comfortable ride."

The interior of the Yukon is quite spacious, and your options between the different trims gives you options for seating up to 7, 8 or 9 people. "Eight people can fit in the base Yukon, which comes standard with two captain’s chairs in front and a bench seat in the second row. An optional front-row bench seat increases seating capacity to nine, while available second-row captain’s chairs reduce seating to seven."

Available driver-assistance technologies with the Yukon include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic braking, safety alert seat, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, rear cross traffic alert, and blind spot monitoring, while a rearview camera is standard.

Fashion, Art, Design: the Cadillac House Offers Place of Inspiration in Heart of NYC

Cadillac House - NYC, Smail Blog

Located in the vibrant SOHO neighborhood of New York City, the Cadillac House is "an opportunity to share the brand's singular perspective on subjects beyond automotive design." This space on ground floor of Cadillac's global headquarters serves as a multi-function area for art, fashion and design.

Open to the public seven days a week, there is gallery for cutting-edge art, retail pop-up showcasing designers, coffeehouse and meeting places built to be flexible enough to host parties, business meetings or just casual meet-ups. It, of course, also features a Cadillac vehicle exhibition, on display as works of art themselves. This showroom is open to the public as well, with anyone having the ability to sit behind the wheel and experience the vehicles.

There is a dedication to fashion through a partnership with the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Together Cadillac and the CFDA run the Retail Lab in the Cadillac House, where one designer will have their work on display and for sale for three months. “Retail Lab will give designers a space in the heart of Cadillac’s headquarters, along with the tools, training and inspiration to take their business to the next level," said Melody Lee, Director, Brand Strategy & Planning at Cadillac.

The Cadillac House is also an event location, playing host to a wide variety of arts and culture. Just earlier this month the Cadillac House was turned into an official runway venue for the New York Fashion Week: Men's, (NYFW: Men's) with a diverse selection of fashion shows. It was also the home of the Opening Night Party for NYFW: Men's with a performance by Common.

The week after the fashion shows featured a City Harvest Summer Dinner Series where each night a different chef prepared a one-of-a-kind, multi-course dinner with wine pairings. All proceeds benefited City Harvest and supported their anti-hunger programs.

“Cadillac is redefining what it means to be a ‘patron of the arts,’ and our partnership with the CFDA has emphasized that commitment in fashion,” said Melody Lee, Cadillac director of Brand Marketing. “Cadillac House is meant to be a place that our community and partners can make their own dynamic experiences within."
